On the slopes of the Wasatch Mountains, away from the late summer heat,, you can find pockets of fall colors growing around Deer Valley resort. Pleasant temperatures and a long holiday weekend make for a perfect evening to enjoy food and a show. I’d recommend getting the pit GA tickets to be up (very) close and personal with the bands or the reserved seating to have a dedicated place to sit. As the sun began to set the crowd swelled, ready to enjoy a concert on the slopes. They filled the lawn with picnic blankets, food and drink from the local vendors, and more stylish hats than a Pinterest board.

A local artist Jazzy Olivo opened the evening, setting the tone immediately with upbeat ,and true to her name, jazzy tunes. Performing in both English and Spanish, Jazzy’s sound is intimate and powerful. She shared the background of each song as she performed, adding depth and vulnerability to her set. Getting the crowd dancing helped to keep the mood up as the sun and temperature settled in preparation for Kaleo.

Utah is the 6th stop on the Mixed Emotions tour and Kaleo was in full swing starting the night strong with “Bloodline,” one of my personal favorites from the Mixed Emotions album, bringing up the energy on the slopes. This was my first time seeing Kaleo live and I was curious if they could match their iconic sound in a live performance. I’m happy to report that every expectation was met and exceeded, non-stop sound with seamless transitions between each track made time pass in a blur. They performed hits “Hot Blood”, and “Break my Baby” with a crowd of cowboy and felt-hat-wearing fans singing along. An interlude with the track performed in their native Icelandic tongue “Sofðu Unga Ástin Mín” was a slow soulful performance and a nice change of pace. They continued to perform from their impressive collections of hit records with “Usa Today”, the iconic “Way down We Go”, and returning to the stage for an encore performance of “Back Door” to close out the night.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show and trying to keep track of how many different guitars there were on stage. Each has a unique profile and the crew did an excellent job with every change.

If you haven’t already, you should absolutely see Kaleo perform live. The magic of singing along with a crowd in person is hard to replicate and I’ll be missing this feeling until Kaleo comes to town again.
