On a warm Friday night in Flushing Queens NY, thousands upon thousands of fans of the indie folk rockers The Lumineers packed the Citi Field stadium ready for a night of feel good and emotional hits. The band has become a household name with such chart topping hits as “Stubborn Love”, “Ophelia”, and “Ho Hey.”

On their expansive tour, The Lumineers are taking a rotating roster of talented acts. In the first stretch we have the psychedelic indie rock band from St. Paul, Minnesota, Hippo Campus. To get the audience ready they played a few hits from their 2024 album Flood, while also making sure to play the hits such as 2017’s “Buttercup” and “Way It Goes.”

Next to stage as the sun started to set was Young the Giant, currently on a tour of their own, joining up with The Lumineers for two stops of theirs, the next being Fenway Park. The Irvine CA alt rockers not only played songs from each of their albums in their career, but they debuted a brand new song never heard before titled “Different Kind of Love.” It’s an exciting look into Young the Giant’s next chapter that shouldn’t be missed.

Finally the stars of the night, The Lumineers, took the stage as the dark skys lit up by stage effects and synchronized audience wrist watches extended the immersive light show as far as the eye could see. The band played through 29 songs that night, with a bulk of them being from their January 2025 release Automatic. In a scene that quickly became viral online, during the performance of “Ophelia” they brought out the mascot of Citi Field, Mr. Met, who took an unfortunate tumble off the stage before quickly being rescued by the closest band members.

A touching moment was had when lead singer Wesley Keith Schultz shared with the massive crowd that his brother had suddenly passed just weeks earlier. He reminisced when going on family trips they would often listen to the same Billy Joel album, which led into a heartfelt performance of “New York State of Mind.” It was a beautiful expression to see a stadium packed with people who grew up on Billy Joel connecting with the band on such a deep level. The Lumineers continue their Automatic World Tour across the globe until October with an unbelievable carousel of supporting acts that you won’t want to miss!
