After hitting Cleveland, The Wrecks travel south to bring their newest album INSIDE : to Columbus.
Imagine this: It’s a warm and sunny sixty-five-degree day in June of 2020. You’re in your mom’s white SUV staring out the window when something breaks your haze. It’s a song on the radio, Sirius XM’s Alt Nation to be exact, and some random artist you had never heard before is talking about being in the bathroom next to a picture of Kanye West.

That was my first introduction to The Wrecks, and boy, was it a memorable one. The American pop-rock band has captured the hearts and ears of many over the years, with their first single “Favorite Liar” being an instant ticket to success. The band has recently released a new EP by the name of INSIDE : and I already have a few favorites.
Following the release of the EP, the band comprised of Nick Anderson, Nick Schmidt, Aaron Kelley, and Billy Nally, decided to hop on the road and tour North America with artists Quarters of Change and Benjamin Carter.

To shake the night up right, Benjamin Carter, aka Ben and his drummer Ben and his guitarist Toast played some groovy vibes. During his set, we shared tea recipes, inspirational life advice, and a lot of silly jokes in between some beautiful vocals. Overall he left a heartwarming vibe with the crowd as we got ready to see Quarters of Change take the stage.

As I was standing in the photo pit, I heard a girl in the front row scream as Quarters of Change came on, “I LOVE YOU” which was immediately followed by the girl next to her saying, “Who doesn’t”. This interaction perfectly sums up my experience with their set. The band had lots of good chemistry together and looked like they were truly having a blast. I left the night with a few more of their songs in my liked playlist.
And for the pinnacle of the evening, The Wrecks. Screaming, shouting, and maybe a little sobbing is how I would describe the experience. Lead singer Nicks infectious smile had the whole crowd falling in love. With the bands unique pop-rock sound, people were screaming and throwing themselves around to the beat and catchy soul-healing lyrics.
There were two highlights from their Columbus show that will stick with me for a while. The first of which was a fan project. Before the show, a couple of people handed out colored pieces of paper to hold up during the song Infinitley Ordinary. Which was one of the last songs of the evening. And it was truly such a beautiful moment getting to oversee a whole crowd of beautiful pink, blue, and purple colors while swaying along to a song that has an emotional resonance with a lot of people.

My second favorite part of the night was the very last song, Favorite Liar. During this last song, I had made my way to the back of the crowd by the sound booth to scream lyrics to my heart’s content. When halfway through the song, before the second verse, Nick says to split the crowd. And when a band tells you to split the crowd, you listen. Opening up a gap in the center, Nick makes his way through the crowd, signing the verse and ends up walking right past me to dab up the sound engineer. He then proceeded to get the whole crowd clapping along in rhythm just before the chorus started, and then started moshing with the fans for the last lyrics of the song.

These moments are what concerts and life in general are all about. Finding something to connect with and doing things that bring you joy. And if I only had one word to describe the evening, it would be joyful. The Wrecks brought a positive and uplifting energy to Columbus that I don’t think anyone will soon forget, and I pray they come back soon so I can relive the memory of being in my moms SUV on a warm summer day in June of 2020 and the feeling of pure connection and happiness that standing in the center of The Wrecks moshpit can bring.
