Under the glowing lights of Chicago’s historic Aragon Ballroom, Diplo took the stage this Halloweekend, bringing his signature energy to a sold-out crowd decked out in costumes. The atmosphere was electric from the start, the room literally shaking, with anticipation for one of EDM’s most iconic names. Fans brought the holiday spirit, showing up dressed as Spiderman, vampires, zombies, pop-culture icons, and some in their animal onesies. BLOND:ISH and A-Trak kicked off the night and warmed up the crowd, and once Diplo’s set time came and emerged from backstage, the audience erupted in cheers as they realized he was dressed – perhaps appropriately for Chicago – as a hotdog, adding a fun and playful touch to the night that perfectly fit the Halloween spirit.

Diplo has long been known as a trendsetter in the music world, seamlessly bridging the gap between EDM, hip-hop, and pop. Beginning his career in Philadelphia in the early 2000s, he made waves with his unique production style, eventually founding his own label, Mad Decent, which has introduced audiences to talents like Major Lazer and Dillon Francis. Over the years, Diplo has become a globally recognized DJ, producer, and performer, collaborating with artists like M.I.A., Beyonce, and Justin Bieber, whilst continuing to evolve with a level of versatility few in the industry can match.

This show displayed Diplo’s talent for creating an unforgettable atmosphere. His setlist featured a mix of his greatest hits, crowd favorites, and some Halloween-inspired tracks, blending in some remixes that had the audience up on their feet the whole night. The room was pulsing with energy, the floor was literally bouncing from everyone dancing, and with every smooth transition, the crowd would erupt in screams and shouts.

The most memorable moment came when Diplo took the mic and screamed, “CHICAGOOOOOOOO”, climbed up onto the table, and began throwing Chicago hotdogs into the crowd. Fans went wild for the unexpected treat, some people even climbing on each other’s shoulders in an attempt to catch one. The gesture, while humorous, also showed Diplo’s connection to the crowd, acknowledging both the city’s unique culture and the Halloweekend festivities. By the end of his set, Diplo was sending fans home with ringing ears, sore feet, and memories of a Halloweekend concert they wouldn’t soon forget.
